Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak

August 9, 2021

The Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak, with the rate of meteors reaching 60 or more per hour. Primarily visible in the northern hemisphere, the Perseids grace the night sky each summer with an astonishing number of meteors, brilliant streaks of light caused by bits of comet debris burning up in the high atmosphere.

The Perseids, widely considered the best meteor shower of the year, according to NASA, began this year on July 14 and will continue until August 23. The best time to view the spectacular display will be from 2am to dawn.
