New Munch Museum opens on Oslo’s waterfront

October 22, 2021

The world’s largest collection of art by Edvard Munch opens on Oslo’s waterfront. The new 13-floor venue will spotlight over 1,200 paintings owned by the museum, many displayed for the first time. The building, made of recyclable concrete and steel, with a facade of translucent, perforated aluminium, was designed by Spanish firm Estudio Herreros.

The museum will become one of the world’s biggest institutions dedicated to a single artist. It will become part of Oslo’s waterfront skyline in the area of Bjørvika, a new urban development where the Oslo Opera House is also located.
