2024 em vias de ficar 1,5°C acima dos níveis pré-industriais

By Ninian Carter

November 7, 2024 - Segundo o Serviço de Alterações Climáticas Copérnico da UE, 2023 foi 1,48°C mais quente que os níveis pré-industriais, tornando quase certo que irá ultrapassar os 1,5°C mais quente em 2024.

After 10 months of 2024, it’s now almost certain that the year will be the warmest on record and the first that’s warmer by more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900).

October 2024 was the second-warmest October globally, after 2023, with an average surface air temperature of 15.25°C, 0.80°C above the 1991-2020 average for October, according to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service.

It was also 1.65°C above the pre-industrial level and was the 15th month in a 16-month period for which the global-average surface air temperature exceeded 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Given that 2023 was 1.48°C above the pre-industrial level, it is virtually certain that the annual temperature for 2024 will be more than 1.5°C above the pre-industrial level – likely more than 1.55°C above.

This marks a depressing new milestone in global temperature records that will be an urgent talking point at the upcoming Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22, 2024.
