Papa Francisco faz a mais longa viagem do papado
September 2, 2024 - September 13, 2024 -
O Papa Francisco faz a mais longa viagem dos seus 11 anos de papado, visitando quatro países insulares num ambicioso périplo que
vai testar o vigor do chefe da Igreja Católica de 87 anos.
Over 12 days, Francis will travel nearly 33,000km to visit Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore.
In each of the four countries, the pope will hold official meetings with political authorities, diplomats, and local Catholics. He will also lead outdoor celebrations of the Catholic Mass in all four countries, Reuters reports.
Catholic officials broadly see Asia as fertile ground to expand the faith, which has experienced decline in Western countries.
Francis will be the third pope to visit Indonesia. The trip was originally planned for 2020 but was called off because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
