RU cai para o nível mais baixo no índice da corrupção

By Phil Bainbridge

January 30, 2024 - Com crescentes preocupações com o clientelismo na política, o RU caiu para o nível mais baixo de sempre na perceção da corrupção nos serviços públicos, enquanto a Dinamarca continua a liderar.

Ten years ago the UK sat at 8th and was widely regarded as one of the least corrupt countries in the world, but has fallen to 20th after a series of scandals during the Boris Johnson years, including the awarding of PPE contracts during the pandemic, and the resignations of both the Independent Advisor on Ministerial Interests and the government’s anti-corruption chief, a post that has remained vacant for over 18 months.

A global trend of weakening justice systems in both authoritarian and democratic countries is reducing accountability for public officials, which is allowing corruption to thrive. Over two thirds of the 180 countries surveyed are perceived to have serious corruption problems, with the majority remaining stagnant or declining in the last year - the UK was among 23 countries that fell to their lowest score this year.
