Recontros na fronteira Israel-Líbano
January 8, 2024 - Um ataque israelita no sul do Líbano matou um comandantye do da Força Radwan de elite do Hezbollá, disse à AFP um responsável de segurança.
Wissam al-Tawil died when his car was targeted by Israel in the southern Lebanese town of Khirbet Salem, around 15 kilometres from the Lebanese-Israeli border.
The Radwan Force is a unit of Hezbollah trained to conduct raids into northern Israel if the war expands.
Since launching an all-out campaign to eliminate Hamas as a fighting force following the deadly cross-border attacks by the militant group on October 7, Israeli and U.S. leaders are facing simultaneous attacks from a strengthening defensive alliance of other armed militant groups linked with Hamas and Iran.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other senior Biden administration envoys travelled to Middle East capitals over the weekend to calm tensions and deter further attacks.
The latest strike follows an Israeli drone attack on January 2 in Beirut, which killed top Hamas official Salah al-Arouri.
