O novo “Threads” da Meta ameaça o Twitter

By Ninian Carter

July 6, 2023 - Mark Zuckerberg diz que milhões de pessoas subscreveram o Threads
da Meta nas primeiras horas – uma nova app concebida especificamente
para imitar o Twitter, que tem perdido popularidade com Elon Musk.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg claims 10 million people signed up to its new social media app, “Threads”, in the first seven hours after launch.

The sign-up process is linked to Instagram, meaning a user can rapidly create a Threads account and easily find and track the same accounts that they follow on Instagram.

With such a quick and painless sign-up process to Threads, it could pose a serious threat to Twitter, which has been languishing after billionaire owner Elon Musk instigated a rash of unpopular changes to the service.

According to German data gathering platform Statista, as of January 2023, Instagram has 2 billion monthly active users, while Twitter has 556 million.

With unhappy users already leaving Twitter, they might switch to Threads to give it a try. And if Threads gathers millions more sign-ups, advertisers may decide to switch their spending from Twitter to Threads also.

Perhaps it’s too early to speculate, but could this be the death knell for Twitter?

Time will tell.
