Meta corta 6.000 postos de trabalho
May 22, 2023 - A Meta deverá despedir mais 6.000 empregados dos seus departamentos empresariais na última ronda de despedimentos da companhia.
Meta is about to lay off around 6,000 employees in its third round of mass cuts, according to news outlet Vox, who obtained a recording of a recent company staff meeting chaired by Meta president of global affairs Nick Clegg.
After laying off 11,000 employees last November, Meta later announced job cuts affecting an additional 10,000 workers by the end of May 2023.
Meta cut 4,000 of those 10,000 positions in March (in the technology divisions) and now intends to lay off 6,000 business department staff members.
Meta’s ongoing layoffs are part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s plan for a “year of efficiency” in 2023.
The downsizing of Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) is a stark example of how many major tech companies over-hired during the Covid-19 pandemic and now must adjust to major shifts in the tech industry as a whole.
As Clegg put it to staff in the meeting, “It’s a time of great anxiety and uncertainty”.
