Séries de filmes Marvel ascendem ao domínio da bilheteira

By Ninian Carter

November 14, 2022 - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, o último êxito da Marvel, trepou para uma enorme estreia nos EUA de $180 milhões – a maior estreia de
novembro, batendo The Hunger Games: Catching Fire de 2013.

The latest Marvel offering, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, has dispensed a much-needed shot in the arm for movie box offices, as fans flocked to see the sequel following the death of original star Chadwick Boseman in 2020.

Based on early estimates, the movie had a U.S. domestic opening weekend of $180 million – just shy of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” with its $187 million start earlier this year.

The numbers are exceptionally positive for movie theatres still smarting from Covid-19 lockdowns and the huge financial losses those incurred.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is the highest grossing November opening ever – beating 2013’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” which racked up $158 million on its opener.

It is also the second biggest opening of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time, taking $330 million worldwide.

Pundits predict the movie could reap $500 million domestically and the same again in the rest of the world over the next few weeks, making it possibly the third release of 2022 to make it past $1 billion – the others being “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Jurassic World: Dominion”.
