Nov 1 Israel: Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister and the most polarizing political figure of his generation, bids to return to power as Israelis vote in their fifth national election in less than four years.

Nov 4, Egypt: A century after the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun, the Grand Egyptian Museum could finally get an opening date. It will showcase the full collection of 5,000 relics unearthed in the boy king’s tomb.

Nov 6-18, Egypt: The COP27 conference in Sharm El-Sheikh aims to secure meaningful targets to halt global warming, but an energy crisis and the war in Ukraine have changed the geopolitical context dramatically.

Nov 8, U.S.: The mid-term elections see all 435 seats in the House of Representatives contested, plus a third of the Senate. Most are safely held by either Democrats or Republicans, with just 30 House and four Senate seats currently a toss-up.

Nov 14, U.S.: NASA plans a third attempt to launch its inaugural Artemis mission to the moon, after technical setbacks and bad weather delayed earlier attempts.

Nov 15, World: The global population is projected to reach 8 billion. India is expected to surpass China as the most populous country in 2023.

Nov 15-16, Indonesia: The G20 summit is set to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin together with U.S. President Joe Biden and EU leaders, in their first in-person encounter since the invasion of Ukraine.

Nov 20-Dec 18, Qatar: The first FIFA World Cup held in the Middle East kicks off. The four-yearly tournament is being played in the cooler months to avoid the punishing heat of summer.
