July 18, 2022 - O Presidente Volodymyr Zelensky demitiu a Procuradora Geral da Ucrânia e o chefe dos serviços de informação interna no domingo, a mais significativa mexida no governo desde o início da invasão russa em fevereiro.

Zelensky announced the dismissals of the prosecutor general, Iryna Venediktova, and Ivan Bakanov, the leader of the SBU -- and a childhood friend of the president -- in executive orders on the president’s website.

In a televised speech on Sunday night, Zelensky said he had responded to multiple treason investigations into collaboration with Russia by officials in the prosecutor general’s office and the SBU.

Law enforcement personnel faced 651 cases of high treason, Zelensky said in his speech -- and that more than 60 employees of the prosecutor’s office and the SBU remained in occupied territory and were working against the state.

“Such an array of crimes against the foundations of the national security of the state… pose very serious questions to the relevant leadership,” Zelensky said.

At least 10 Russian missiles rained down on Mykolaiv on Sunday in the second significant attack on the southern port city in two days. The rockets believed to be modified Russian S-300 surface-to-air missiles set off fires and damaged industrial infrastructure in “multiple districts” of the city, according to Ukrinform, a Ukrainian news agency.
