Novo PN australiano viaja para a cimeira Quad

By Ninian Carter

Anthony Albanese has been sworn in as Australia’s new leader and has immediately jetted off to the “Quad” summit in Japan.

The “Quadrilateral Security Dialogue” is being hosted in Tokyo by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and is also being attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Joe Biden.

The dialogue was initiated in 2007 by then Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, in the wake of a devastating earthquake and tsunami in 2004. It was supported by Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney.

The group have met occasionally since 2007, most recently when Biden convened a virtual Quad meeting in 2021 to discuss Covid-19 and climate change.

This year, conversations will likely include the war in Ukraine and their shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific, aimed at countering Chinese maritime claims.
