Milhasres em fuga de vulcão na Canárias

By Jordi Bou

September 20, 2021 - Foram evacuadas cerca de 5.000 pessoas de povoações na ilha de Palma com a lava do vulcão de Cumbre Vieja a escorrer pelas encostas, devastando tudo no seu caminho.

The volcano erupted on Sunday, shooting lava hundreds of metres into the air, engulfing houses and forests, and sending molten rock towards the Atlantic Ocean in La Palma, the most northwestern island in the Canaries archipelago.

No fatalities have been reported but the volcano was still active on Monday.

The last eruption on La Palma, 50 years ago, lasted just over three weeks. The last eruption on all the Canary Islands occurred underwater off the coast of El Hierro island in 2011, and lasted five months.
