Mudança climática domina as eleições na Noruega

By Jordi Bou

September 12, 2021 - September 13, 2021 - A Noruega, maior produtor de petróleo da Europa Ocidental, vai às urnas em eleições dominadas pela questão climática, em que os Conservadores deverão perder para uma coligação liderada pelos Trabalhistas.

Norway is the country of the largest proponents of green solutions such as electric cars and carbon capture storage: seven in 10 new cars sold last month in Norway were fully electric.

But the country also has a massive sovereign wealth fund accumulated on the back of oil and gas output.

Since publication of UN climate report (IPPC) in August, climate change has been a top issue, with left and green parties seeing poll numbers climb.

But with the three possible candidates for premier - the Conservative party’s Erna Solberg, Labour leader Jonas Gahr Stoere, and the Centre Party's Trygve Slagsvold Vedum – favouring further oil drilling, there seems little chance of the environmental lobby calling time yet on an industry that accounts for 42% of national exports and employs around 160,000 people.
