Jogada de Trudeau para a maioria pode sair pela culatra
September 9, 2021 -
Desde que convocou eleições antecipadas para tentar aproveitar a sua
gestão da pandemia e conseguir uma maioria no Parlamento, o Primeiro
ministro do Canadá Justin Trudeau tenta combater a fadiga do eleitor.
Trudeau, 49, has pre-empted the country’s election schedule by two years, reckoning that a majority government is needed to “finish the fight” against the coronavirus.
But since calling the snap election, the Liberal party that he leads in a minority government has slid down the polls. The Conservatives, the main opposition party, have been rising and have a shot at winning the 20 September election.
Trudeau calculated that the Conservatives were weak as the pandemic has limited the profile of their unassuming leader, Erin O’Toole. But with a fourth wave of the coronavirus taking hold in Canada just as children are returning to school, voters are in no mood for a needless ballot.
