Projeto Eden prepara expansão global

By Ninian Carter

March 17, 2021 - Quando o Projeto Eden celebra os seus 20 anos, coloca a mira na expansão global a abarcar todos os continentes, exceto a Antártida.

Twenty years after the Eden Project opened in a disused china clay quarry in Cornwall, UK, its owners are working with a variety of international partners to establish a sisterhood of new Eden Projects around the world.

The eco-charity, which recreates different climate zones in giant biomes (formed from hundreds of hexagonal and pentagonal ethylene tetrafluoroethylene inflated plastic cells), opened on March 17, 2001, and houses thousands of plant species in adjoining hemispherical enclosures that emulate natural rainforest environments from around the world.

The Cornwall Eden, which celebrated its 20 millionth visitor in April 2018, has been voted Britain’s best visitor attraction several times over. Sir Tim Smit, co-founder of the original Eden Project, launched Eden Project International in 2014, with the aim of raising environmental awareness around the world.

For China, Eden represents one of the more attractive solutions to the problem of defunct mines, of which there are around 300 in Jizhou district alone.

Other nations in line to receive Eden Projects include Australia, Chad, Costa Rica, New Zealand, the UAE, and the U.S.. Three more will open at other locations within the UK.
