Recorde de infeções por coronavírus colocam a Europa em confinamento

October 26, 2020 - Vários países europeus estão a impor novas restrições numa tentativa
para conter a disseminação da Covid-19 quando uma segunda
vaga da pandemia assola o continente.

Spain’s government agreed on Sunday to declare a national state of emergency, which included a nighttime curfew and possible travel restrictions between regions.

In Italy, new restrictions were also announced on Sunday, including the closure of swimming pools, theatres and gyms. Bars and restaurants will have to shut by 6pm, but shops and most other businesses can remain open.

Meanwhile, France has reported a record number of new daily infections. A total of 52,010 infections were reported on Sunday, up from just over 45,000 on Saturday, according to the BBC. Last week the country extended an overnight curfew to more departments, putting at least 46 million of its residents under extra restrictions.

Spain and France each surpassed one million cumulative confirmed cases last week, becoming the sixth and seventh countries to do so globally. Britain, Germany, Belgium and the Czech Republic are also experiencing record numbers – threatening to overwhelm countries’ abilities to test, trace and contain the virus, NPR said.
