Metade das famílias nos EUA perderam rendimento durante a pandemia

By Duncan Mil

July 31, 2020 - Mais de metade da população adulta dos EUA diz que perdeu rendimento do trabalho – ou outro adulto da sua família –, enquanto que 35% diz esperar que a sua família ganhe menos no próximo mês.

Since March 13, 126.5 million adults have lost employment income, according to the latest Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey.

The results show that homes in two states with tourism-centred economies have suffered particularly hard financially. More than 65 per cent of adults in Nevada and over 55 per cent of adults in Hawaii report they’ve seen dips in their households’ employment income since mid-March. Fifty-two per cent of adults in Nevada and 42 per cent in Hawaii expect that over the next month their families will take home less pay.

Getting enough to eat is also an essential measure of well-being. One in 10 adults (9.6 per cent) reported that they did not get enough to eat some of the time and 2.2 per cent said they often did not get enough to eat during the survey period.

Republicans in Congress propose a second round of $1,200 stimulus cheques. Once the legislation is final, it could take weeks before Americans start to see the second payments in their bank accounts or mailboxes.

The first cheques, authorized through the CARES Act in March, cost an estimated $300 billion.

The Census Bureau surveyed more than 86,790 households through online questionnaires in English and Spanish between July 16-21. The bureau developed the questions for this $1.2 million survey with the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Department of Housing and Urban Development, National Center for Health Statistics and other federal agencies.
