RU cunha moeda para celebrar o Brexit

By Duncan Mil

January 27, 2020 - O Reino Unido vai colocar em circulação três milhões de moedas do
Brexit quando o país sair da União Europeia. É a terceira vez após duas tentativas falhadas para pôr em circulação a moeda comemorativa.

The launch of the seven-sided 50 pence coin is third time lucky for Chancellor Sajid Javid, who is Master of the Royal Mint, after two failed attempts at unveiling the commemorative currency.

After cancellation of the original March 29 departure day, Chancellor Javid produced one million coins stamped with the alternative October 31 departure date.

“Leaving the European Union is a turning point in our history, and this coin marks the beginning of this new chapter,” Javid said in a statement. A further 7 million will enter circulation later this year.

The UK has used 50 pence commemorative coins to celebrate national achievements ranging from the 2012 London Olympics to the 30th anniversary of Wallace and Gromit’s first adventure “A Grand Day Out” in November 1989.

The 2009 Kew Gardens 50 pence is the most desirable to collectors. Only 210,000 were minted, making it the scarcest design ever to be circulated. They now often sell for more than £100 on eBay.
