Orçamentos de defesa vão dominar a cimeira
December 3, 2019 -
Com os líderes da NATO reunidos em Londres para assinalar os 70 anos
da aliança, espera-se que o Presidente Donald Trump renove a exigência
de os aliados europeus e o Canadá aumentarem a despesa de defesa.
Trump has repeatedly criticised fellow NATO members and complained that too few nations are on track to meet the alliance goal of spending at least 2% of GDP on defence by 2024.
Nine countries are projected to meet the 2% benchmark this year — the U.S. with about 3.4%, Greece, Britain, Bulgaria, Estonia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania — up from three nations in 2014. Germany will spend 1.35%, ranking it 17th, but it aims to hit 1.5% by the deadline. Spain, Belgium and Luxembourg spend less than 1%.
