ATP Finals 2018

By Chris Dinsdale

The season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London is played between the top eight players with the most ranking points collected during the calendar year. Points that contribute to the Race to London ranking are accumulated in the Grand Slam, ATP World Tour (ATP World Tour Masters 1000, ATP World Tour 500 series, and ATP World Tour 250 series), and Davis Cup tournaments.

Ranking points are awarded for each event - ranging from 2,000 for the winner of a Grand Slam tournament to 250 for the winner of a 250 series event.

To quote Wikipedia: “Unlike all other singles events on the men's tour, the ATP World Tour Finals is not a straightforward knock-out tournament. Eight players are divided into two groups of four and play three round-robin matches each against the other players in their group. The two players with the best records in each group progress to the semifinals, with the winners meeting in the final to determine the champion.“
