November 6, 1956: Construction of the Kariba High Dam began on the Zambesi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It forms Lake Kariba, the world’s largest man-made lake by volume

November 10, 1933: The “Black Blizzard” began in South Dakota, sweeping clouds of suffocating topsoil across the country and creating a storm of dirt, heralding the Dust Bowl era
