November 24, 2018 -- The Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club competition, reaches its climax. The showpiece final is contested in two-legged home-and-away format, between fierce Argentinian rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate. The second leg takes place at River Plate’s home ground in Buenos Aires. The first leg ended with honours even at Boca’s home stadium, after River Plate equalised twice in a pulsating 2-2 draw.

Boca Juniors and River Plate are two of the most successful teams in Argentine football, inspiring fierce rivalry both on the pitch and among rival supporters, creating one of the most competitive derbies in world soccer. Matches between the teams are known as “Superclasico”. Boca Juniors have won 88 of these contests, River Plate have won 81, and 78 games have ended in a draw.

Both legs of the final will be contested in front of home fans only, as a result of recent clashes between supporters. With CONMEBOL looking to establish a one-match finale in the competition from 2019, the fiercest rivalry in South American football could be set to dominate the headlines for years to come.

NEW GRAPHIC NEWS - a new website for a new era.

28 years ago — April 2, 1991 — the original Graphic News launched using a precursor to today’s websites that used email technology. These enabled infographics to be delivered electronically around the world over telephone lines. What was possible was very limited - It took 10 minutes for a 100K file to download.

Since then delivery speeds and website technology have moved on. The new website will offer the best online experience possible now, adding many new features (and offering new opportunities for the future), but still enabling existing users to select and download infographics and enjoy the distinct brand of visual journalism that is Graphic News.

Over the coming weeks I will give further information. Please contact me if you have any questions. Fiona Roberts, froberts @ graphicnews.com
