May 30-July 14, 2019 -- England and Wales host the ICC Cricket World Cup. Lord’s Cricket Ground in London will host the final on July 14. Affectionately known as “The Home of Cricket”, Lord’s has occupied a special place at the heart of the game for over 230 years.

The ground is named after its founder, Thomas Lord, a former professional cricketer who opened his first cricket ground in 1787 on Dorset Fields, site of the present day Dorset Square. Marylebone Cricket Club, which compiled the rules of cricket, was founded there in the same year.

Lord opened a second ground in 1809 and by 1811 the original ground had closed. Just two years later a third move, to its present site in St John’s Wood, became necessary when Parliament requisitioned land to build the Regent’s Canal.

The Pavilion, with its famed Long Room, opened in 1890, while the equally famous weathervane, depicting Father Time, arrived in 1926.

Lord’s has witnessed many iconic moments in the sport’s history and the 2019 World Cup Final will be the fifth to be hosted at the Home of Cricket.

NEW GRAPHIC NEWS - a new website for a new era.

28 years ago — April 2, 1991 — the original Graphic News launched using a precursor to today’s websites that used email technology. These enabled infographics to be delivered electronically around the world over telephone lines. What was possible was very limited - It took 10 minutes for a 100K file to download.

Since then delivery speeds and website technology have moved on. The new website will offer the best online experience possible now, adding many new features (and offering new opportunities for the future), but still enabling existing users to select and download infographics and enjoy the distinct brand of visual journalism that is Graphic News.

Over the coming weeks I will give further information. Please contact me if you have any questions. Fiona Roberts, froberts @
