April 9, 2017: Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia finally won his first major title at his 74th attempt with a thrilling play-off victory at the U.S. Masters at Augusta

April 10, 1998: The anti-impotence drug Viagra first went on sale in the United States. It was an instant success, with annual sales peaking in 2008 at $1.934 billion

April 11, 2011: France banned the wearing of full face veils in public. The ban led to protests by Muslims but supporters said it was necessary to preserve French culture

April 12, 2008: Norway’s new national opera house opened in Oslo. The $835m white marble landmark was sited on the shore of the Oslo Fjord in the heart of the capital

April 13, 2017: The U.S. military deployed the Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), nicknamed the “Mother of all bombs”, on Islamic State targets in Afghanistan

April 14, 2008: Passenger train services resumed between the Indian city of Calcutta and the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka for the first time in 43 years
