June 15-18, 2017 -- The U.S. Open will be played at Erin Hills, Wisconsin. The windswept, virtually treeless course has a links-like feel, with rolling terrain, tall grass hazards and sprawling bunkers.
The inaugural U.S. Open in 1895 was won by Horace Rawlins from England on a nine-hole course in Rhode Island, who received a gold medal and $150 in prize money. In the 116 tournaments since, home favourites have claimed 82 titles.
