Trumps onorthodoxe kabinetskeuzes

By Duncan Mil

December 11, 2024 - President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet choices face widespread criticism, with several contentious hires receiving mixed reviews even from fellow Republicans.

Among Trump’s Cabinet picks that have drawn intense scrutiny are Pete Hegseth (Pentagon chief), Kash Patel (FBI Director), Chris Wright (Energy Secretary, Tulsi Gabbard (Director of National Intelligence),
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, HHS) and Susie Wiles (Trump’s White House Chief of Staff.

Trump was elected on November 5 by 312 Electoral College votes to 226 for the Harris/Walz team of Democrats.

However, given Republicans’ slim 53-47 Senate majority, the fate of Trump’s nominees will rest on a handful of Republican lawmakers; just four senators could sink any nominee since Democrats will vote against many of Trump’s picks.

After the rebel takeover of Syria, Tulsi Gabbard’s support of the fallen regime of Bashar al-Assad has come under growing scrutiny, along with past expressions of sympathy for Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

If confirmed as the top public health official in the country, Trump’s pick of JFK Jr. will oversee the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and Medicaid, which provides health coverage to over 72 million Americans.

“I look forward to working with the more than 80,000 employees at HHS to free the agencies from the smothering cloud of corporate capture so they can pursue their mission to make Americans once again the healthiest people on Earth,” Kennedy said.

Trump’s highest-profile defeats to date have been former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, who pulled out as attorney general following allegations of sex trafficking and sex with a minor, and Tampa-area Sheriff Chad Chronister, who was Trump’s choice to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration.
