Manchester United draait verlies
September 30, 2024 - Despite British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe purchasing a 27.7% minority stake in the club earlier this year, fortunes at Old Trafford have continued their downward trajectory.
In 2024, Manchester United posted a loss of £69m for the financial year despite generating almost £700m income, with 43% from sponsorship and merchandising. Cumulative operating losses since 2021 now stand at a burgeoning £205m.
Operating losses maxed out at £769m in 2024, with the wage bill and “amortization” -- player asset depreciation -- accounting for over 70% of expenses (£555m). Under performing players such as Brazilian midfielder Casemiro only serve to highlight the persistent correlation between struggles on and off the pitch at Old Trafford.
On the pitch, coach Erik ten Hag is under pressure after a dismal defeat to Tottenham in the Premier League, which followed the tepid stalemate with Twente in the UEFA Europa League.
