June 10, 2024 - War cabinet members Benny Gantz, Gadi Eisenkot and Chili Tropper resigned from Benjamin Netanyahu’s emergency government on Sunday, laying bare deep divisions over the Gaza war.

The departure of three members of Gantz’s centrist National Unity party will leave Netanyahu reliant on ultra-nationalist hardliners in the war cabinet.

In May, Gantz gave Netanyahu a June 8 deadline to develop a clear day-after strategy for Gaza.

“Netanyahu is preventing us from advancing toward true victory,” Gantz said in a televised news conference. “That is why we are leaving the emergency government today, with a heavy heart but with full confidence.”

As the war in Gaza enters its eighth month, the military campaign has still not achieved Netanyahu’s stated goals -- the destruction of Hamas and the return of more than 100 remaining hostages held in Gaza.
