Extreem-rechts in de EU zet AfD eruit

May 24, 2024 - The European parliament’s far-right Identity and Democracy Group has expelled all nine members of Alternative for Germany (AfD) following comments about Nazi SS soldiers.

Maximilian Krah, the AfD’s leading candidate in next month’s European elections, tells the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that Nazi’s Waffen SS were “not all criminals.”

The SS, or “Schutzstaffel” -- a main paramilitary force of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi party -- played a leading part in the Holocaust.

“The ID Group no longer wants to be associated with the incidents involving Maximilian Krah, head of the AfD list for the European elections,” the Bureau of the Identity and Democracy Group, or ID Group, said in a statement on Thursday.

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen from her National Rassemblement (RN) Party said they would no longer sit in the same parliamentary group as the AfD after next month’s elections.
