Drone-aanval op kerncentrale Zaporizja

By Phil Bainbridge

April 8, 2024 - Ukraine has denied involvement in a drone attack on Zaporzihya nuclear power plant – which has been under Russian control since 2022 – and accused Russia of a false flag operation.

A canteen, cargo area and the dome over reactor 6 were hit in three separate drone strikes but did not result in any critical damage. The IAEA confirmed that a drone detonated at the ZNPP but did not specify the party responsible for the drone strike and called on both parties to refrain from such actions warning that the attacks “jeopardized nuclear safety”.

There are four major nuclear plants in Ukraine, plus the now-retired Chernobyl. Zaporzihya has been under Russian control since soon after the invasion in 2022.
