Republikeinse caucus Iowa

By Duncan Mil

January 16, 2024 - Donald Trump has scored a record-setting win with 20 of the 40 Republican delegates votes in the Iowa caucuses.

Trump’s victory sends a resounding message that the GOP’s 2024 presidential nomination is his to lose.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis finished well behind in second place with eight delegate votes, edging out former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley with seven votes.

According to Edison Research, with 95% of the expected vote tallied, Trump had 51%, DeSantis was 21%, and Haley was 19%. The most significant margin of victory for an Iowa Republican caucus had been 12.8 percentage points for Bob Dole in 1988.

Iowa voters endured life-threatening cold and dangerous driving conditions to meet in hundreds of schools, churches and community centres across the state.

The Republican contest moves to New Hampshire, which will hold the first-in-the-nation primary on January 23.
