January 15, 2024 - Primaries and caucuses to select the Republican presidential nominee begin January 15, with ex-President Donald Trump likely to have the race wrapped up by early March – unless legal action intervenes.

Trump remains the undisputed frontrunner in the field despite facing 91 criminal charges in four separate cases, including one relating to his actions on January 6, 2021 alleging an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

He has been disqualified from holding office in Colorado and Maine under the 14th amendment of the US constitution, which prohibits individuals who have engaged in insurrection from holding office, with numerous other states also considering similar action.

Trump is suing to reinstate his name on Maine’s presidential primary ballot and is expected to file a separate appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, to which he appointed three conservatives to its nine-judge panel during his term, to overturn the Colorado decision.
