By Jordi Bou

December 22, 2023 - Czech police are trying to find out the motive behind the country’s worst-ever mass shooting, which saw a student open fire at a university in central Prague, killing 14 and wounding 25 others.

The government declared a day of mourning across the central European country for Dec 23 to remember the victims, decided at a special cabinet meeting with President Petr Pavel.

The shooting began at around 15:00 local time on Dec 21 at the Faculty of Arts building of Charles University off Jan Palach Square in the centre of the Czech capital.

The shooting is one of the worst in Europe in recent decades.
