Russische invasie: Situatie dag 565
September 11, 2023 - The Ukrainian offensive is expected to have another 30-45 days of “fighting weather” before heavy late autumn rains according to Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.
The summer counteroffensive is going slower than hoped in the face of dug-in Russian defensive positions, heavily mined fields and artillery bombardment, but is continuing to make progress at a steady pace. Ukraine’s military intelligence chief said, however, that fighting would continue regardless of the weather conditions.
Ukraine has made gains in Zaporizhya Oblast as it attempts to reach the Sea of Azov and split the Russian defences, as well as around Bakhmut, which Russia captured in May after months of gruelling warfare. The IAEA has warned of the nuclear risk at Zaporizhya NPP after a surge of fighting in the area.
