Proud Boys-leiders veroordeeld tot gevangenisstraf voor aanval op Capitool VS (1)

By Jordi Bou

September 1, 2023 - The Proud Boys’ former leader, Enrique Tarrio, has been jailed for 22 years for orchestrating the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan 6, 2021 – the longest sentence imposed so far in the case.

U.S. District Judge imposed the sentence on Tarrio, 39, of Miami, for his role in the riot by then-President Donald Trump's supporters. His lawyers said he would appeal.

This is the last in a series of sentencing hearings for the ringleaders of the U.S. Capitol riot.

Until now, the longest sentences were the 18-year terms handed down last week to another Proud Boy, Ethan Nordean, and in May to Stewart Rhodes, founder of the Oath Keepers, a far-right militia.

Two other Proud Boys received prison sentences last week for their roles in the riot. Joe Biggs, a U.S. Army veteran, got 17 years. Former U.S. Marine Zachary Rehl received 15 years.

More than 1,100 people have been arrested on charges related to the Capitol assault. Of those, 597 defendants have had their cases adjudicated and received sentences. About 366 individuals have been sentenced to periods of incarceration.
