Oost-Kharkiv geëvacueerd onder Russische dreiging
August 11, 2023 - Ukrainian authorities ordered a mandatory evacuation of the eastern Kharkiv region as Russia prepares to retake the area it invaded then lost in September 2022.
Ukrainian forces made sweeping territorial gains in a lightning counter-offensive in the northeastern Kharkiv region, handing Russia its most serious military defeat since its troops were driven back from Kyiv in spring 2022.
Now Russia has formed eight Storm-Z assault detachments, formed by recruiting convicts from prisons, with the apparent aim of recapturing the territory, initially focussing on the strategic city of Kupyansk. Around 12,000 civilians are beng evacuated from 37 towns and villages in Kupyansk Raion which is under intense artillery bombardment.
