Microsoft een stap dichter bij het kopen van Activision Blizzard

By Ninian Carter

July 12, 2023 - Microsoft’s bid to buy games-maker Activision Blizzard – maker of Call of Duty – received a boost after a U.S. judge rejected a request from regulators to block the $69 billion deal.

Microsoft and Activision Blizzard have successfully blocked an attempt by U.S. regulators to reject a deal that would see the former buy the latter for $69 billion.

The tech giant’s merger with the Call of Duty maker would be the biggest deal in gaming industry history.

However, in order for the deal to go ahead, Microsoft and Activision need approval from regulatory bodies in the UK, EU and United States.

The EU has approved. The likelihood of success in the U.S. has now been greatly improved. However, UK regulators blocked the deal in April, citing concerns it would constrict innovation and give gamers less choice in the expanding cloud gaming market.

Microsoft is appealing the ruling.
