Russische invasie: Situatie dag 499 (1)
July 7, 2023 - President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus has said Wagner boss Yevgeny Prizoghin is still in Russia despite the deal he brokered to end the Wagner insurrection.
Under the terms of the deal, Prizoghin was believed to have agreed to stand down his mercenary force and relocate to Belarus, in return for unspecified security guarantees. However Lukashenko has begun to distance himself from the deal as it appears Prizoghin has not yet agreed to redeploy Wagner forces to Belarus, and is now moving freely within Russia, to St Petersburg - where he collected some weapons from an FSB building - and possibly even to Moscow.
U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to approve a new arms package for Ukraine that will controversially include cluster munitions, which are banned in more than 120 countries. Human Rights Watch says they will cause long-term suffering for civilians and urged on Moscow and Kyiv to stop using them.
