June 30, 2023 - The U.S. considers supplying Ukraine with cluster munitions - banned in over 120 countries - to boost its counteroffensive against dug-in Russian positions.

Human Rights Watch has reported evidence of indiscriminate use by Ukrainian forces of of banned anti-personnel landmines against Russian troops. Ukraine itself ratified the international treaty banning them in 2005, although Russia has not joined the treaty.

Near the Zaporizhya nuclear power plant, Ukraine is holding nuclear disaster response drills amid accusations that Russia is planning a “terrorist” attack involving the release of radiation.

In Russia, the Kremlin has refused to divulge the whereabouts of Army General Sergei Surovikin - who according to U.S. intelligence knew in advance of the Wagner Group uprising - and who is suspected of having been detained by security services for questioning. Surovikin was one of Russia's most respected generals, and had previously commanded Russian forces in Ukraine.
