FA Cup Finale: Manchester City - Manchester United

By Chris Dinsdale

June 3, 2023 - The FA Cup, the world’s oldest association football competition, reaches a thrilling finale as fierce Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United clash at Wembley Stadium, London.

Manchester City are chasing a treble winning season after hoisting the Premier League title and set for UEFA Champions League final against Internazionale on June 10. City are playing their first FA Cup final since 2019, and are aiming to secure a seventh FA Cup trophy overall, in a 12th appearance. They are yet to concede a single goal in the competition so far, easing through the early rounds with wins over Chelsea, Arsenal, Bristol City and Burnley, before beating Sheffield United in the semi-final to secure their spot at Wembley. Key man Erling Haaland will aim to add to his hefty 52-goal tally this season.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are targeting their first FA Cup trophy since beating Crystal Palace in 2016, and 13th FA Cup title overall. United, who are aiming to win both major domestic cup competitions in single season for first time, beat Everton in the third round and followed up with victories over Reading, West Ham United and Fulham. A penalty shoot-out semi-final win over Brighton sealed their Wembley berth.

2023 showpiece will be the first ever Manchester Derby in a major final. The pair have met on 189 previous occasions, with the United securing 78 wins to the City’s 58, while 53 matches have ended in a draw.
