MONARCHIE

Charles en Camilla in Westminster Abbey gekroond

By Jordi Bou

May 6, 2023 - The coronation of King Charles III takes place at London’s Westminster Abbey. Charles will be the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned at Westminster Abbey since William I, better known as William the Conqueror, in 1066.

During the ceremony, Camilla, the Queen Consort, will be crowned alongside the king.

Around 2,000 guests, including members of the Royal Family, foreign heads of state and other dignitaries will attend the coronation.

Following the ceremony, King Charles and Queen Camilla will return to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach at the head of the Coronation Procession, a tradition in place since the coronation of King William IV in 1831. They will then make an appearance on the balcony with other members of the Royal Family, to witness a six-minute flypast.

The festivities continue over a further two days, including a concert at Windsor Castle and community events across the country.
