Tijdlimiet voor jonge gebruikers TikTok
March 2, 2023 - TikTok is setting a 60-minute daily time limit for users under 18 to mitigate the video app’s addictive nature. If young users hit the limit, they must enter a password to continue.
Users of the platform must be at least 13, and, as part of this new feature, anyone under 18 will receive a weekly notification with a “recap of their screen time.”
Users can opt out of the new limit, which TikTok says will be rolled out “in the coming weeks.” But if they go on to use the app for 100 minutes a day, they will receive a prompt from TikTok to set their screen time controls.
Critics of the video app welcomed the screen time limit but described it as the “tip of the iceberg” regarding TikTok’s response to young users’ exposure to the video-sharing app.
TikTok has also faced accusations of privacy violations and concerns over its alleged ties to the Chinese government.
The Canadian government has become the latest to ban the app from government devices, following similar moves in the United States.
India was the first country to ban TikTok in June 2020, citing national security and data privacy concerns.
