Trump lanceert NFT-kaarten op een instortende markt

By Ninian Carter

December 16, 2022 - Former U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a collection of digital trading cards, depicting himself in various glitzy guises.

Donald Trump has announced the “Donald Trump Digital Trading Card collection” via his Truth Social social media platform.

In the launch video, an animated version of Trump rips open his shirt to reveal a superhero costume as lasers shoot from his eyeballs!

Costing $99 each, the cards (non-fungible tokens – NFTs) can be collected like baseball cards, stored digitally and/or traded. Buyers are also entered into a sweepstakes for prizes including dinner with the former Republican president, or a game of golf at one of his resorts.

NFTs have been touted as the digital answer to collectables, but in recent months the market has soured along with that of cryptocurrencies.

The announcement has been ridiculed on social media from the likes of President Biden and high-profile Republican Steve Bannon.

However, all 45,000 NFTs sold out in 12 hours, earning $4,455,000.
