Amerikaanse leger kiest vervanging voor Black Hawk helikopter
December 6, 2022 - The U.S. Army has selected Bell’s V-280 Valor tiltrotor to replace the venerable UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, which has been flying since the 1970s.
Bell received a $232 million contract on Monday – the first instalment of what could be a $7.1 billion deal for development and an initial batch of aircraft. Ultimately, the contract is potentially worth around $70 billion – over decades – depending on how many the Army and U.S. allies order, according to Reuters.
The V-280 beat a competing design from Sikorsky-Boeing – the SB-1 “Defiant” – which features two coaxial rotors and a single pusher propeller, Reuters said.
