November 11, 2022 - Republicans look set to take control of the U.S. House of Representatives, but the battle for the Senate is on a knife edge. With 48 seats, Democrats can retain control of the upper chamber by winning just two more races -- Vice President Kamala Harris’s tie-breaking vote would give them a Senate majority.
Control of the Senate rests on three States: Arizona, Nevada and Georgia, with Nevada and Arizona still too close to call.
Arizona: Former astronaut Mark Kelly is holding a lead for the Democrats over his Republican rival Blake Masters, with 99% of the vote expected to be counted by Friday.
Nevada: Postal votes can arrive up to four days after the election, where incumbent Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto is lagging slightly behind Republican Adam Laxalt.
Georgia: The hard-fought battleground Senate race between Trump-backed Republican Herschel Walker and the incumbent Democrat, Sen. Raphael Warnock, heads for a runoff election on December 6 as neither candidate has received more than 50% of the votes required by Georgia law to secure a victory.
With 98% of votes counted, Warnock led Walker by a slim 49.4% to 48.5% margin.
Florida: Florida has re-elected Republican Ron DeSantis as governor by a margin of 19.4 per cent. His victory positions DeSantis for a potential 2024 presidential campaign.
Pennsylvania Senate race: Democrat John Fetterman defeated Trump-backed Republican rival Dr Mehmet Oz in the pivotal Pennsylvania Senate race, the National Election Pool (NEP) projects, giving the Democrats a one-seat advantage with five Senate seats to be declared.
