October 20, 2022 - Liz Truss has dramatically resigned as the British prime minister after just 45 days in office, but says she will stay on until a successor is chosen, by October 28.

Liz Truss has quit as UK prime minister after just 45 days in office.

She says her successor will be elected in a Tory leadership contest, likely to be completed by October 28.

Truss is the shortest-serving prime minister in British history, a title previously claimed by George Canning, who died after 5 months in office in 1827.
