October 3, 2022 - Ukrainian forces continued to liberate settlements east and northeast of the key city of Lyman, just two days after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the annexation of four areas of occupied Ukraine in the largest forcible annexation of land in Europe since 1945.
Ukraine’s Interfax agency reported that according to Serhiy Cherevatyi, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Eastern Group of Forces, Ukraine’s forces recaptured Torske, a village in the Donetsk region, about 15km east of Lyman.
Lyman’s capture is Ukraine’s biggest battlefield gain since a lightning counteroffensive in the northeastern Kharkiv region last month.
Along with Lyman, Ukraine forces have liberated the small Arkhanhelske and Myrolyubivka settlements in the Kherson region as well, Reuters has reported Volodymyr Zelenskiy as saying.
