September 30, 2022 - At least 23 people have died in a Russian attack on a humanitarian convoy in the city of Zaporizhya, as Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing for a signing ceremony in Moscow to annex the Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine.
Another 28 people were injured in attack. All the victims were civilians.
Russia's expected annexation of the Russian-occupied areas of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhya has been widely condemned in the West. U.N. chief Antonio Guterres said it was a “dangerous escalation” that would jeopardise prospects for peace.
The attempted annexation follows self-styled referendums in the eastern and southern regions, which have been condemned by Ukraine and the West as a sham.
