September 21, 2022 - Final opinion polls put Giorgia Meloni’s post-fascist Brothers of Italy above 25 per cent -- almost double that of Matteo Salvini’s anti-immigration League -- ahead of Sunday’s election.

Italy’s right-wing coalition of the Brothers of Italy, League and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia look set to take more than 46 per cent of the vote, according to the last surveys released before the pre-vote polling embargo kicks in ahead of the September 25th general election.

Italian news agency Ansa reported that support for Meloni’s far-right Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia, FdI) rose to 25.3 per cent of those polled by Quorum/Youtrend for Sky TG24. Salvini’s League commanded 12.9 per cent, and Berlusconi’s Forza Italia (FI) received 7.9 per cent.

The centre-left Democratic Party (PD) remained in second place, polling at 21.2 per. With its smaller left-wing allies, PD polled at 28 per cent of the vote – around 18 points behind the right.

The populist Five Star Movement (M5S) was in third place, running alone with support rising to 13.8 per cent, while the centrist alliance between Azione and Italia Viva (AV+IV) held 5.5 per cent.

An Ipsos for Corriere Della Sera similarly put FdI on 25.1 per cent, the PD on 20.5 per cent, the M5S on 14.5 per cent, the League on 12.5, Forza Italia on 8 per cent and the Third Pole AV+IV on 6.7 per cent.
